Remachining turbines from groups 2, 4 and 6. Rebuilding the water intakes for groups 1 to 6 of the 294 MW generating station

Main Work Performed

  • Installation of steel modular cofferdams using a high capacity bridge crane and overhead gantry (upstream and downstream)
  • Sealing the underwater cofferdams with the help of a team of commercial divers
  • Pumping to dry out the intake turbines
  • Concrete demolition and excavation of bedrock in the bend of the intake in order to increase water flow
  • Use of high-pressure jets of water to clean the bedrock
  • Use of shotcrete to channel water leaks in the bend of the intake
  • Building the reinforcement to suit the new hydraulic profile
  • Installation of prefabricated moulds and concreting the intake
  • Disassembly of moulds and cleaning
  • Crack grouting
  • Repair (demolition, form assembly and concreting) the valve water chamber (upstream and downstream)
  • Building and installation of an entirely new set of valves and valve guides (upstream and downstream)
  • Assembling forms and reinforcement and concreting embedded parts for the valve guides
  • Assembling forms and reinforcement and concreting new deck slabs downstream from the station
  • Sandblast cleaning and painting of penstocks
  • Repairing the concrete of the downstream surface of the dam
  • Building and installing a steel structure which gives access to the downstream deck
